Fragments of Palestine is a collection of drawings Tim Sanders made when he accompanied a delegation of health workers as official artist in residence in May 2023.
The aim was not to show suffering, it was to show how ordinary life can be in extraordinarily difficult circumstances. People still go to work, do the shopping, take their kids to school and watch football. It’s an attempt to counter the ‘othering’ of Palestinians.
Artist biography.
Tim Sanders is a British artist and cartoonist, born in the Midlands a long time ago and is now what they call a veteran! He studied illustration at Harrow College of Art and after graduating worked as a political cartoonist and illustrator for a broad range of publications in the UK and abroad.He was the in house cartoonist for the Independent titles for nearly two decades and has contributed to the Guardian, Observer, Private Eye, Mail on Sunday (!) and many other publications. He has illustrated a number of children’s books in the UK and Spain and illustrated the graphic novel 1917 Russia’s red year (Bookmarks 2016).
